Angling innovation

Founded in 1917, Inverness Angling Club (IAC) successfully supports and promotes angling in Inverness and the surrounding area, attracting over 350 members, including a strong junior section of over 100.

IAC has made a significant contribution to game angling in Scotland and further afield. It builds on the innovatory skills of members such as the ‘Wizard of the Ness’, Alexander Grant, master of Speycasting and inventor of the Grant Vibration rod; John Reidpath, who changed the face of fly tying with the development of the Hairy Mary, the first of the modern hair wing salmon flies; John Cathcart, inventor of the famed Black Shrimp; and Scott Mackenzie, three times world Speycasting champion and record holder.

We were proud to celebrate Grant’s achievements in an international Speycasting tournament on the Little Isle Pool of the Ness in 2015, attracting 20 Speycasters from the USA, Ireland, Norway, England and Scotland. The event was repeated in September of 2017 when 25 international Speycasters celebrated the club’s centenary.
