River opening ceremony cancelled

Inverness Angling Club advises members and visitors that no formal ceremony will be staged for the opening of the salmon fishing season on the River Ness town fishings on Monday, February 1.

President Alex Elliott said: “The club committee feels that any gathering for an opening ceremony would flout current Covid-19 regulations and risk the health of those attending.

“Angling is permitted under current regulations and fishermen value the contribution it makes to their physical and mental health. Many of us will have been looking forward to getting out on the river for a cast.”

He added: “If you do go out on opening day, it’s important that you observe strict social distancing and sanitise your gear and hands after using any riverside installations. All huts will remain closed until further notice.”
